We decided to give dog friendly Overlook Lodge another chance and to my happy surprise the shared fireplace living area has been renovated and is clean! We had a nice dinner in the restaurant on Sunday night. Also beautiful walk around Lake and playing with our pups on the great lawn. We will now return. PS - All the trails are closed due to storm in 2023, 2024 and they are doing trail maintence.

Isolated and Creepy

We stayed at the Overlook Lodge which was more than a mile from the main building/reservations/staff - up a very long, remote, isolated, rough road. There was no staff on-site and we were guessing we would be the only guest in the whole place (although there were two other cars by morning). It creeped me out. I stopped at the reservation desk to tell them and they said they have staff there on the weekends...but what good would that do for me on a Monday night? I wish their practice to tell guest who book weeknights like me, since I would have stayed somewhere else instead. Also, the bar was closing early because it was the same day they served tea in the afternoon. Oh, well. I bet it is a better place to say in season.

We stayed at the Stone Cottages with the common area in the middle. Since someone made a fire in the common area, our room smelled so intensely of smoke the entire night....and the common thermostat was set extremely hot....awful! Lumpy pillows as well....would not recommend. They need to improve the ventilation or not allow fires.

I will absolutely never stay here again. I can find much less expensive hotels to stay for a night but I gifted this to my partner and it was not the romantic getaway we’d hoped for. No one seemed to understand how to utilize a gift certificate and everyone I spoke to blamed the girl who checked us in saying “she’s new and doesn’t know what she’s doing”. Which is a terrible thing to do, to throw an undertrained staff member under the bus. She was told to have us go to the room and wait a half hour for the manager to call. I waited over 90 minutes and no one called. I went to the Inn to find someone and no manager was present. I was told he’d be in in the morning so I came back and no manager again. Apparently my issue was beneath him and didn’t care to try and fix it or make it better. I even emailed him and no response. What a shame because the location is incredible but I wasted almost $300 that I can’t get back because no one cares to make this right. Oh and just to top off this experience, we were so hungry by the time we got back to our room and had given up trying to fix this. I wanted to order food from 1915 and go pick it up but no one answered the phone. And the vending machines in the lobby of the lodge were practically empty. I expected a lot more out of this place.

I booked this place based on some positive reviews and boy do I regret it. The word rustic just means old, overcharge and super tired. The room in the Overlook were just depressing and just dirty. This Overlook is far away from the main building so if you need something for your room, good luck! Just finding the long winding gravel road to this bldg is under construction and challenging. The building is just sad, burnt smokey smell and questionable "Overlook"view. The wall and carpet had questionable stains, bed was uncomfortable, bathroom was old, gross and had broken, cracked lighting fixture over the shower. The closet doors are dark brown with many paint coats. I was on the 2nd floor and had zero view of anything. The entry, shared area, stairs and hallway was dark and just depressing. If you complain to mgmt, they get very defensive, talk over you and simply think the rooms are great and happy to charge over $250-350, depending on your room & weekend, for the pleasure of staying in their "rustic" place.
